Biography
I grew up in
Oklahoma on a dairy farm, and then in a small town helping my Dad operate
a service station. I actually started to school in Salinas, California
and went my junior year of high school there in a couple of "Grapes of Wrath"
type of moves from Oklahoma to California. Later on, I worked one summer
after my sophomore year at the University of Oklahoma.
After graduation, I went to Princeton to get a master degree in chemical
engineering that I later found they didn't really have a program for.
The good part is that I met my wife at the local church of Christ. Before
that, I dropped out of school and went to work for Exxon. Then I transferred
to Texas when we were married.
I ended up being drafted and served a year in Vietnam as a medical corpsman
because of my conscientious objector status. I initially worked for
the doctor who later became 3 star general over all of US Army medical before
he retired in 2000.
Going to Vietnam was my introduction to foreign travel that I later got
plenty of with Exxon out of Exxon Research & Engineering office in Florham
Park, NJ. My wife and I lived and worked in Europe, Asia, South America
and Canada and have visited some out-of-the-way places several times like
Tahiti, the Seychelles, Australia, New Zealand and a few Carribean islands.
Spiritual
Background
All things work
together for those who love the Lord. My father and grandfather were
each elders in the church of Christ. I and my sister actually started
going to church on our own at a community church across our farm field meeting
at the school there. Later, my parents went back to the church that
they'd known in our youth when we moved to town.
My wife and I have worshipped and worked with various congregations around
the world, mainly at the Pasir Panjang (Long Beach in Malay) congregation
in Singapore.
Favorite
Verses
I don't really
have one. I get choked up every time I read about the story of Joseph
and his getting his family back.
Why I
Am a WBS Teacher
I am a WBS Teacher
mainly because I feel I can have a little better connection with those in
other lands because I know some about their countries.
Campaigns
To date
I've been privileged to participate in knocking on doors in Highland, TX.
Hobbies
/ Interests
I enjoy landscaping
and gardening, computer programming and auto maintenance and enjoying nature
in the all-together. My favorite study topics are science & the Bible
and Max Lucado books. The study of science (creation, etc.) has answered
all my questions that I've had since early youth. Max always puts a
new slant on Biblical topics that aren't tied to traditionalist ways of thinking.
