Biography

I am a Mechanical Engineer, but at age 74, I have been retired for 9 years.  During my working career, I worked on the development (but not production) of various space propulsion systems.  These included Saturn, Juno, Jupiter, and the Space Shuttle system. I have also worked on Skylab (the first American space workship) and, after retirement from NASA, I worked on Spacelab, the second American space workshop.

I have been married to the same woman since 1947.  We produced one son and two daughters and they have provided us with three grandsons (ages 20 to 30 years), five granddaughters (ages 5 to 17 years), and one great-granddaughter.

I am pretty much middle class as relates to income, home, etc.  My practices are not middle class because I do not use drugs, alcohol, nor tobacco, and I try to worship my God very often and pray all the time.  I also read my Bible all of the time and complete a trip through it about once a year.  I do not believe any human being or any book written by any man can compare with the Bible as
instruction for living, dying, and living again in Heaven.

My town, Huntsville, is located in the north central part of Alabama and is the county seat of Madison county.  It was established in 1805, was used to write the first constitution for the state of Alabama in 1812, and served as the state capital at that time.  Huntsville is a very modern town now with a population of about 170,000, but when I came here in 1951 there were only 16,000 people here.  It was a sleepy little agricultural town known for its water cress.  At one time, it had a 10-mile long canal down to the Tennessee river for shipping products by barges, which were mule-drawn on the canal.  This is largely an overgrown stream now and is not navigable.

Spiritual Background

I have served many years as deacon, elder, mission coordinator, Bible class teacher, education director, maintenance coordinator and other nameless, but necessary, positions in the church where I was worshipping at the time.

Why I Am a WBS Teacher

I have been studying the Bible since childhood and teaching it for about 45 years in one way or another.  As I have become older, my ability to speak “on my feet” has diminished and I say words that are not really what I mean to say.  The tendency to use incorrect words detracts from the continuity of thought and is not good for a teacher to have.  Therefore, I have quit teaching orally.  Now I try to teach in writing because I can go over what I have written and make sure the words look pretty good.  The necessity of teaching and otherwise doing the Lord’s will is bearing on all of us, and this is one way I can do that.

Hobbies / Interests

My hobbies are few and are primarily traveling by car, teaching World Bible School and World English Institute by correspondence, both by e-mail and by snail mail.  (I really do not care for air travel although I do it when necessary or advisable.)  I also enjoy corresponding with my friends by e-mail, not by snail mail, it is too slow and I must write more perfectly.  My 8 grand children (six of whom live near me) absorb much of my time and attention.
