Biography
Hi, my name is
Debora and I work with WBS-Internet in the Student Enrollment and New Teacher
Departments. In January of 2000 I was promoted to Web Campus Administrator.
I am looking forward to that challenge and opportunity. I am married to
Jay Don and we have three children, a boy and two girls. The two girls,
Alissa 13 and Trasa 10, still live at home with us. We live out in the
country and the girls have cats. I think 9 is the current number, but spring
is coming and I'm sure that number will triple. We also have a few goats,
some chickens, and a dog. I also baby sit a sweet little toddler girl during
the school year.
Spiritual
Background
I grew up in
the church and was baptized as a pre-teen in 1972. I'll save you the math,
I turned 40 in 2000. Almost all my life I've been sharing Jesus' love with
people. It wasn't until a few years ago that I learned how to share His
love in a way that lead people to repentance and baptism. "It is only through
sharing the gospel messages with those in darkness, that I have begun to
understand the wonderful blessings I have in Christ."
Favorite passage
in the Bible
My favorite passage
is Psalms 121. If you're not familiar with this one, it's about God being
our help and our protector. I find great comfort in the words there.
Why I Am a
WBS Teacher
I am blessed
to be a part of WBS. I work with the snail mail at Oldham Lane where we
worship, opening all of the incoming lessons. When I read the letters from
our students, my heart is touched by their earnest desire to know God's
word.
I started working
with the WBS-Internet in 1997. Kit patiently taught me how to send an e-mail
and then how to do everything she did to enroll students. At that time
we had around 80 students a month. Now we have over 400 a month, and the
work never ends. I love it! My office is in the corner of my kitchen and
dining room, so I'm always in the middle of whatever is going on in my
house. There couldn't be anything more perfect for me to do. I send off
messages while the kids are getting ready for school and getting ready
for bed. I enroll students between loading the dishwasher and unloading
the dryer. I have the world at my fingertips.
Campaigns
I have been on
two campaigns to Mexico, one with my husband and one with my oldest daughter.
Although these were medical mission trips, we were able to do a lot of
teaching while the people waited to see the doctors. I found the ground
in Mexico quite hard.
Jay Don and I
have also been on two mission campaigns to Ghana, West Africa. The first
trip, changed my life more than anything I have ever done. For almost two
weeks, day in and day out, I taught or helped teach the gospel. The Ghanaian
people responded with eagerness and a desire to learn about their creator
and savior. I saw hundreds of people respond to God's message and accept
Him in Baptism. When we returned the next year, almost all of the baby
Christians were still faithful. I am looking forward to the next trip I
get to make to Ghana. The girls want to go with us next time.
Hobbies /
Interests
I like to cook
and garden. I especially like to cook Chinese food. My gardening is the
flower variety. I like having the flowers around, but I don't like the
ones you have to fuss over all the time.
Favorite study
books
My favorite book
is Ephesians because of all the "in Him" promises and blessings. In the
6 chapters there are over 20 verses that talk about the blessings you have
when you are in Christ Jesus.
