Wrong Directions
A story is told by Paul Kearby of a terrible blizzard that
was raging across the land. Because of the storm, a train was
slowly moving and making very slow progress. Among the passengers
was a woman with her infant son. The mother was very worried
that she would miss her stop and get off at the wrong station.
A kind-hearted gentleman noticed her anxiety and said to her,
"Don't worry, I know this route well, and will tell you
when we arrive at your station."
After traveling for several minutes the train came to a sudden
halt. The gentleman knew this stop to be the station the mother
wanted so he helped them off the train and into the merciless
cold. At the next stop the conductor called out the name of the
station where the woman wished to get off!!
"You've already stopped at the station," the man
said to the conductor. "No sir," replied the conductor.
"Something was wrong with the engine and we stopped between
stations for a few minutes to repair it." "Oh no,"
cried the man, "I put that poor woman and her child off
in the storm when the train stopped between stations!" Off
he flew in a frantic search for the mother and child. But all
was fruitless and both the mother and the child were found the
next day frozen to death. Their death was the tragic result of
a kind man giving wrong directions. He may have meant well, but
he was still wrong-dead wrong.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate
and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter
through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads
to life, and only a few find it." Let's watch our steps,
because the majority of this world, your friends and mine, are
listening to a kind preacher that's giving wrong directions.
"For the time will come when men will not put up with
sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will
gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their
itching ears want to hear." 2 Timothy 4:3
Prayer
Dear Heavely Father, we come to you in praise and thanksgiving
for You are the one that we can always trust in times of uncertainty.
Your word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. Help
us set aside our own selfish desires, looking for the way that
brings glory to you. Give us the wisdom, strength and courage
needed in times of decision. We ask these things in the name
of your precious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen
